First performed in 2002, Alice is the moving story of a woman’s fight for a new life in colonial NZ. Fleur Adcock’s text with music by Gillian Whitehead is already recognised as a NZ musical masterpiece.
Also on this CD is the exquisite short concerto for harp and orchestra “Karohirohi”, and one of Whitehead’s most impressive symphonic scores “The Improbable Ordered Dance”.
NZSO conducted by Marc Taddei
Helen Medlyn (mezzo) performs “Alice”
Carolyn Mills, NZSO Principal harpist, performs “Karohirohi”.
